From Curiosity to Commitment:
A Path Toward Jesus Christ
What’s In A Name?: Encountering the Logos
The name Encountering the Logos draws directly from the opening verses of the Gospel of John, where Jesus is introduced not only as Savior, but as the very Word—the Logos—of God:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.”
— John 1:1–3 (NIV)
The Greek word Logos (λόγος) is translated as “Word”—and it refers to the divine reason, truth, and expression of God Himself, made manifest in Jesus Christ.
At ELM, we believe that people today can encounter the living Christ in much the same way that Andrew and Peter did in the first chapter of John—not merely by hearing about Him, but by truly meeting Him heart to heart and through his Word. Through careful study of Scripture, honest group dialogue, and the movement of the Holy Spirit, we experience the Logos in a way that is alive, personal, and transformative.
This ministry is named not just for what we study, but for Whom we meet—the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ.
Our Purpose in Practice: The Objectives of ELM
The goal of Encountering the Logos Ministry is simple—but deeply intentional: to create a space where men and women can grow in their relationship with Jesus through honest dialogue and deep engagement with Scripture and each other. ELM helps re-center our lives on Christ and His Word.
We aim to:
Foster spiritual growth through thoughtful, Gospel-centered Bible studies, retreats, and conferences
Cultivate authentic Christian community marked by trust, humility, and open conversation
Engage both seekers and lifelong believers in a shared pursuit of truth
Equip people to live out their faith with courage, clarity, and compassion
Provide educational and service opportunities which stretch our faith and expand our understanding of Christ’s kingdom
Highlight written articles and speaking engagements by Dan on a regular basis
Whether gathered in person or online, our groups reflect a shared longing—for depth, for connection, and for Christ at the center of it all.
How We Gather
At Encountering the Logos Ministry, our community grows through intentional, Christ-centered activities that go far beyond a traditional Bible study. Whether you’re joining us from across the street or across the world, there are meaningful ways to engage.
Weekly Bible Studies
(In-Person and Zoom)
At the heart of ELM are our Scripture studies led by Dan McNerney. We meet in small groups—both locally and virtually—to explore the Word deeply, ask honest questions, and listen together for God’s voice. These weekly gatherings are supplemented by occasional retreats and conferences with deeper learning and fellowship opportunities.
Spiritual and Missional Travel Opportunities
As ELM activities expand, we expect to organize immersive travel experiences to regions where Dan has served in global missions and where Christian history can be explored and richly appreciated. These trips deepen faith, build cross-cultural understanding, and renew participants’ vision for the global Church.
Local Service & Outreach Projects
We believe that faith without action is incomplete. As ELM grows in the near future, we plan to engage in service opportunities—partnering with local ministries, shelters, or relief efforts—to put the Gospel into practice through tangible acts of love.
Whether you’re looking to study, serve, or step into a new spiritual adventure, ELM offers a rhythm of meaningful activity rooted in truth, fellowship, and mission.
Reclaiming the Gospel in a Disoriented Culture
Our Mission
“Encountering the Logos Ministry exists to guide spiritually curious men and women in today’s secular culture into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ—through honest fellowship, Scripture reading, and a Gospel that speaks truth to a disoriented world.”
Our Vision
“To renew faith in the hearts of people across diverse cultures by creating spaces where the gospel is rediscovered, Christ is encountered, and the Church is reclaimed as a vibrant, truth-centered community.”
